FACTS IN BRIEF The Michigan State University (MSU) Osteopathic Residency Program in Diagnostic Radiology is a consortium comprised of four (3) teaching hospitals and the MSU Department of Radiology under the auspices of the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. The four-year residency program is fully accredited by the American Osteopathic College of Radiology and the American Osteopathic Association. The following community based hospitals provide the majority of clinical training and participate in the AOA/AOCR internship radiology match program: Detroit Division: Pontiac Division: Garden City Division: Nearly all of the associated faculty are board-certified and hold clinical faculty appointments with the University. Residents are also eligible for academic appointments as Resident Instructors The curriculum is designed to provide comprehensive training in all phases of diagnostic radiology. Sub-specialty rotations in Pediatrics, Neuroradiology and Nuclear Medicine are obtained through affiliated institutions. In addition, 4 weeks are spent at the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology in Silver Spring, Maryland. A weekly day long educational conference, and three months of on-site training take place on the MSU Campus in East Lansing.
An active Visiting Professor program provides additional teaching and an opportunity to meet with many distinguished faculty from nationally prominent institutions. The American College of Radiology Teaching film file is also available for resident use at MSU in addition to each community. An overview of rotation sequences and a sample schedule for the weekly conferences at MSU are provided below. PROGRAM CURRICULUM The MSU Osteopathic Residency Program in Diagnostic Radiology has outlined the PGY II, PGY III, PGY IV and PGY V Curriculum as follows: PGY II: # of Months General (includes 1 month mammography) Computed Tomography Nuclear Medicine Ultrasound 6 2 2 2 12 months PGY III. This is a 4 week course held in Silver Spring, Maryland. The program sends residents as positions become available. RESIDENTS WEEKLY CONFERENCE SCHEDULE Conferences are held each Tuesday at the Michigan State University Radiology Building and a typical schedule follows: Brant & Helms Quiz. 1:00-2:00 p.m. 2:00-3:45 p.m. The Department of Radiology at Michigan State University provides a Visiting Professor Program consisting of approximately 20 guests per academic year from September through April.These programs are offered for PGY-II residents. APPLICATION INFORMATION ERAS applications submitted to our member sites will be forwarded to our office in East Lansing, Michigan for processing. Please note that your application will become part of the 'candidate pool' for all available positions at McLaren Oakland (Pontiac), Wyandotte and Garden City Hospitals. Supporting documents should include a transcript and Dean's letter from your medical school, transcript of board scores, personal statement, curriculum vitae and two letters of recommendation. In order for your application to be submitted to our selection committee, it must be complete and received at the Department of Radiology at MSU by October 16, 2014.
